FOURSOME 7 Day Tour Map

Our incredible 7-day journey to Japan will introduce you to a beautiful selection of the elite Tokyo Golf and Country Clubs. Many golfers regularly play at least once a week in a group of four with good friends. By putting two and two together we have come up with a plan that has your home foursome playing golf at several magnificent golf courses in Japan. We call it ‘Foursomes’ even if it is played as Fourball or Stroke-Play. You can select from our 7-day, 11-day or 14-day programs or have us design a tour especially for you.

We have designed our week-long trip to this magnificent city of 30 million people. Arrive into Tokyo on Sunday and be whisked away to the elegant Gate Hotel, right in Ginza. Here, we offer you calm and spacious skies at a location nestled in the natural splendour of Ginza, in the midst of the bustle of this metropolis. This is to be your fabulous golf base for six nights; from Sunday through to Saturday in the heart of Tokyo.

Monday Day 2.  Shishido Hills CC, Ibaraki

There are two 18-hole courses here. The East is a forest course and the undulating West has hosted the Japan Golf Tour. As such, this is a tough yet very enjoyable golf course and a friendly clubhouse that offers traditional Japanese fare. The course features undulating fairways and many strategic bunkers that come into play and enough water hazards to keep you well focused. The course is immaculate and has set exceptionally high standards in the way in which the course is presented, as is acknowledged by those who are fortunate enough to play here. A rare sweet treat.

Tuesday Day 3. Hirakawa Country Club, Chiba.

Hirakawa CC is interesting because of its layout and awesome conditions. There is sufficient water and bunkers that protect fast greens and many interesting long holes. Hirakawa CC is 7,206 yards, par 72, built in 1988 affording a reasonably flat terrain surrounded with forests of cedar and cypress trees. These surroundings are sensational so do enjoy the golf.

Here is a top championship course and home annually to the JPGA’s Fujifilm Japan Senior Open. As a private members only course, it is not easy to get on unless you know someone. Hirakawa is one of the Japan courses that does not have power carts. You walk the course and you have a caddy bringing all your clubs to you and your ball. The elevation change is less than 10 metres across the entire course which makes the walk even more pleasant. The fairways are like lush carpets and the greens are tour standard. This is a 2 bent green system. Course maintenance is of high quality and the condition of the turf is very good regardless of the season. The high quality of the greens is part of this well-earned course reputation.

After your golf and suitable refreshments, we return to the Gate Hotel. Tonight is a free night for you to explore Tokyo at your leisure. We do have a suitable list of suggestions.

Wednesday Day 4. Kamakura-Enoshima Tour.

A special Kamakura-Enoshima relaxed tour day is planned. After breakfast, depart the hotel at 10am and we head to Kamakura, a seaside Japanese city just south of Tokyo. The once political centre of medieval Japan, modern-day Kamakura is a prominent resort town with dozens of Buddhist Zen temples and Shinto shrines. The most recognizable landmark is the Kotoku-in Temple’s Great Buddha, a roughly 13m-high bronze statue still standing after a 15th-century tsunami. Yuigahama Beach is the popular surf and swim spot. There are numerous temples and shrines in Kamakura. Our Favourites include Hokoku-Ji, Meigetsu-in and Kencho-ji. Hokoku-ji is famous for its bamboo grove and tea house. From Kamakura Station, you can reach this temple in around 10 minutes by bus or 30 minutes on foot. Meigetsu-in is one of the most frequently visited temples of Kamakura in June, thanks to all of the hydrangea flowers blooming during the rainy season. It’s also known for the round window of the main temple hall, majestically framing the view of the garden behind it. Going there from Kamakura Station will take you 10 minutes by train. Established in 1253, Kenchō-ji is known to be the oldest and most important Zen temple of Kamakura, rich in history and a hoard of multiple national treasures of Japan.

Next door, Enoshima is a pleasantly touristy island just 100 metres off the coast but connected by bridge with the mainland. Views of Mount Fuji can be enjoyed on clear days. We are interested in the mainland, directly opposite the triangular island. Here we will investigate an explosion of delicious seaside restaurants, bistros and cafes serving long-late lunches with great ocean and beach views, meet some of the interesting locals and relax. Then, we board a train and return to our hotel. Tonight is a free night and we suggest a favourite authentic izakaya Japanese gastro pub in Ginza where you can enjoy a lively atmosphere and sample a delicious and eclectic choice of Japanese cuisine in close surroundings. You are free for the rest of the evening to enjoy yourselves with Tokyo.

Thursday Day 5.  Kawaguchiko CC, Mt Fuji.

This is an expansive, highly strategic 27-hole course located in a quiet forest at an elevation of 1,000 meters on the north foot of Mt. Fuji to the south of Lake Kawaguchiko. The course, which was designed by Robert von Hagge of the United States, has fairways and greens of ukishiba grass, and each of the holes has separations consisting of Japanese red pine and Japanese larch trees. Majestic views of Mt. Fuji await at the Kawaguchiko Country Club.

Success here demands high-precision iron shots and strategic play to counter 195 deftly distributed bunkers, perhaps the most among Japanese courses. After your game, unwind and relax in the welcoming ambiance of the mountain villa inspired clubhouse.

Friday Day 6. Narita Golf Club, Chiba.

Seemingly forever suited to become a golf course, designed by Gary Player, who won all four of the world’s major golf championships, the Narita Golf Club course quickly became referred to as one of the most memorable in Japan. The holes make use of the level marshes and plains that curve subtly among small groves. Player has said, ‘Lots of places seemed to be asking to be hole locations from the very start. There was practically no need to shave off mountains or move masses of earth. Just standing there, I could envision a hole and then plan it. I had no idea such a wonderful location still existed in Japan’.

This course design takes the fullest advantage of its undulating conditions. The tree lines and perfectly placed water hazards add great definition and astounding character. It hosted the first US PGA Tour sanctioned tournament, the ‘2017 Japan Airlines Championship’ and many legendary players were impressed by the well-maintained green conditions. The average golfers can enjoy a round if they play according to their skills as the course is enjoyable for all levels of golfers.

After your golf and suitable refreshments, we return to the Gate Hotel to prepare for tonight’s dinner which will be around and under the railway at Yurakucho station. Thereafter it’s a free night to enjoy on the town – and this is Friday night in Tokyo.
